Money is spent on every piece of nonsense in this country, not only by the authorities but also by health insurance companies and various other institutions. But it is not possible to replace an 18-year-old wheelchair for an admirable person who lives independently. Which AOK employee actually sits on an 18-year-old chair or uses an 18-year-old PC in their office? A damning indictment of the AOK!

The AOK rejects everything out of hand. They are twice as far from reality as the sun is from the earth. And you certainly can't use logic with them. Unbelievable.

I feel for Mr. Klei. I cared for my husband at home for two years and feel let down by our healthcare system. Even though we had a lot of technical equipment at home, what my husband needed was physical therapy, which he didn't receive for a year. Rehabilitation was approved, but no clinic would admit him because of MRSA, so he just lay in bed and sadly lost his battle. It's just sad and frightening what goes on in hospitals, etc. I don't blame the staff for this, but our system. A doctor who works with people should be relieved after eight hours. It's no wonder mistakes happen when you're on duty for 24 hours or more, and whether you can sleep during that time is also questionable. I'm afraid of getting old and being helplessly at someone else's mercy.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case in which particularly thrifty clerks have lost their sense of proportion, but one of many examples in which the provision of basic services is unlawfully denied or unnecessarily delayed. The leeway granted by the legislature, which is intended to ensure individual, needs-based care, is often not interpreted by the service providers in the interests of those in need of support, but kept to a minimum. There seems to be a fundamental mistrust that benefits could be applied for that go beyond the absolute minimum of basic care. However, at our Competence Center for Independent Living, we have so far only encountered people with disabilities who are seeking advice and arguing with service providers about basic needs. Never has it been about champagne, but at most about seltzer or something to drink and assistance in serving it.
